What About My Feet? - Your Winter Shoe Edit

SHOES MAKE THE OUTFIT

You can wear the most basic of outfit as long as you have great shoes on, taking your look from boring to wow. Equally, you can have the best outfit on, but if the shoes are wrong your look goes from great to well.... not great, and fast!

So how do you ensure you have great shoes for every look without buying 50 pairs of designer heels (who wouldn't want to, but let's be realistic here).

BUILD A SHOE WARDROBE

Like building your wardrobe basics, there are a shoe basics too. If you apply the same principle of quality basics with a twist, you will have a great base of shoes for every day, occasion and weather.

As with my wardrobe basics, I also look for functional, comfortable and versatile footwear.

my shoe edit

Here I have included every shoe (besides sneakers, that's another story) that you will need to get you through the various needs of each week and outfit.

I've created my shoe edit from Net-a-Porter for two reasons. First, because their shoe edit is spot on. Second, they have fantastic styling, not for everyone's taste, but you can see the footwear in outfit combinations you might not have thought of and recreate in your own style.

Let's start!

Gianvito Rossi Leather Knee Boots

Gianvito Rossi Leather Knee Boots

My Favourite Knee Boots Because

1. They are slightly loose on the calf, therefore perfect under this season's long dresses (as seen), also with short dresses (thick tights or bare legs) and with trousers tucked in.

2. Classic black calf leather works with any colour palette you build in your wardrobe

3. The thick stacked heel is stable and comfortable

4. I love the way the front panel wraps up the ankle creating visual interest to a clean design

My Top Choice Loafers & Why

1. They are smart looking and glossy. A dull finish could make dresses look dowdy

2. They are the perfect weight, heavy enough sole to weigh down a floaty dress and not too heavy to look clownish with trousers

3. You can wear loafers with anything. Dresses, short and long, trousers and skirts. Short skirts if you play with the proportion and have an oversized shirt/jumper

I NEED These Boots

1. Because they are the epitome of cool & rocker chic

2. They are the most comfortable with block heel that's not too high and elasticated ankle, easy to put on - take off

3. They stop at the perfect spot of the ankle making your legs look long and lean

4. You can wear with straight leg, cropped flair or long wide trousers, dresses short and long, skirts. EVERYTHING

You Say You Want Flats

1. These are flat but with a slight heel which is much better for your back

2. Pointed toe shoes make your legs look longer and leaner

3. The combination of sensual suede and buttery leather is the ultimate comfort and cool factor. Suede alone can look dowdy but is super soft and molds to the foot

4. They tie up but in a way that is office appropriate yet subtly sexy on date night. Honey, how about a stroll in the park?

5. Cool with formal or casual and everything in between. Trust me

What About A Simple Classic Pump?

1. These are fabulous because of the heel. The subtle detail takes these from ho-hum to well done!

2. Smart and chic, the perfect classic with a twist

3. The buckle adds the needed weight visually as the shoe is quite light and would otherwise struggle to hold an outfit together

Can You Give Me Some Colour?

1. These are the most comfortable shoes you will wear

2. The luxurious burgundy is a perfect non-colour colour working with all the shades and colour tones in your wardrobe

3. The suede is super soft and flexible on your foot. Feels like slippers and looks lush and rich in the burgundy vs flat in black

3. The heels design makes this traditional shoe interesting and contemporary

Sparkle Needed? Add A Metallic

1. A great way to elevate an outfit for day or night is to add in a metallic shoe. I love the warmth of gold

2. The tapered block heel makes these pumps both stable and deceptively slender looking

3. You can also get a similar version with a lower heel, equal glamour and total comfort!

I'm Wearing A Nude Dress, What Shoes Do I Wear?

1. Combining light oak in the heel these shoes give the weight of black yet the delicateness of natural wood needed to pair with light coloured clothes

2. The combination means these shoes work with every natural colour (grey, camel, green, blue - perhaps not tomato red or fuchsia pink)

2. Seriously the most comfortable heels I own are from Paul Andrews

3. Paul is like the nicest guy. Who doesn't want to support nice designers who care about our comfort?

It's Not All Business, Let's Party!

1. The combination of suede and velvet is sumptuous, sensual and demure, the perfect evening combination

2. The ankle strap is sexy and offers a subtle detail against trousers and dresses

3. The cut of the tongue is interesting yet delicate and means you can wear these shoes with bare legs or tights (just not heavy denier please)
